Green powder, density 3.85, melting point 200°C decomposition, insoluble in cold water and alcohol, soluble in acid and form corresponding copper salt, soluble in aqueous solution of cyanide, sodium hydroxide, ammonium salt and alkali carbonate to form copper complexes. When boiled in an alkali metal carbonate solution, brown copper oxide is formed, which decomposes into black copper oxide at 200°C. It is unstable in hydrogen sulfide atmosphere. Basic copper carbonate has more than a dozen forms of compounds according to the ratio of CuO : CO2 : H2O. In industrial production, its molecular formula is CuCO3 Cu(OH)2 XH2O. The solubility in water is 0.0008%, and its decomposition temperature is 200-220°C with low toxicity.
Desiccant basic copper carbonate is used in the inorganic salt industry to prepare various copper compounds for wood preservation and other fields.
